ABQSS February Business Meeting
Attendance: Alex, Brigitte, Leah, Karen, Tucker, Jennifer, Abbie from the Wheels Museum
Workshops:
-Upcoming workshops are:
• the Jewelry workshop on March 29th
• April will be costuming workshop (suggested on the forums) on the 26th at Jennifer Rivlin’s house. This workshop will be a casual get together where people can discuss and get ideas on new costumes, embellishing current costumes, help with ideas on prop fabrication, or leatherworking. There will be no fees for this workshop
• May will be a Victorian tea party Etiquette class/workshop on May 18th at the Wheel’s Museum. This was also a suggestion from the forums. Tiffin Mistress Leah will run this one, and there will be a $5.00 fee to help cover finger foods and tea.
• June will be a weapon modifying workshop. This will be more of an informative workshop, where people can bring their questions and ideas for modifying their weapons
- Ideas suggested for the Workshop committee’s review:
o Charging full amount for supplies/materials used in make and take workshops
o Charging a small fee for each workshop to help cover the cost of stocking the group’s stash of materials, regardless of the activity.
Events:
- March:
o 6-9 WWWC#
o 15th Google’s workshop at Metro Comics hosted/ran by Tucker
Volunteers in costume are needed to help out
o 22nd Murder Mystery. Potluck. A is working on story and will pass out parts before hand, to those involved in the main storyline
- April:
o Tiffin Party on April 6th at the Wheels Museum
o Easter Egg hunt in the park on the 12th
o 27th Character workshop
- May:
o May 10th Wheel’s Museum National Train Day. Costumes required/ this is a volunteer event.
o 31st Steampunk World of Wonderland in Amarillo, TX
- June:
o 14th FYI Wheels Gala and Fundraiser- more info to come after discussing with the museum
Tiffin:
- Need an account from Nikoel on how much money came in donations
- Tiffin committee needs to meet to discuss how to curb the raising costs of hosting this event for 25+ people
- Look into purchasing a hot water thermos/heater for tea
- Look into finding a tea sponsor:figments/NM tea company
Social Media/ Promotional Materials:
- Ask Nikoel to do flyers and pamphlets/ business cards to hand out at upcoming events
o Jennifer offered to help with this
o Abbie suggested using America’s Printer to use for these materials
- Social Media has delegated sites to certain committee members to maintain and update
- We will hand out promotional materials for the Wheel museum at some of our upcoming events
Fundraising/Swag
- May 4th starts the open market at the Railyards
o Abbie will get us in touch with the person handling registration
o Donations of goods to sell are requested, ideas are jewelry, clothing, props ect…
o We will donate a percentage of our profits to the Wheels Museum
o If someone has goods they want to sell, they can use a portion of our table for 10% of the sales
- Donations of goods for the Wheel Museum to use in their gift shop has been requested
- Permit to carry steampunk weapons have been requested. These can be personalized for our members and we can sell generic ones at booths/tables
- Shirts!!! We would like to put our logo, designed by Martha, onto t-shirts. We can wear these shirts to events that we are not dressing up in costume for. Karen recommended Gorilla Graphic s as potential sponsors to make the shirts.
o Need to digitize the image. Jennifer offered her and Zane’s help in digitizing the image with Martha’s permission
- Banner for booths. Jennifer is looking into possibly painting it on canvas.
Panels/Conventions
- Discussed that we would like to be involved in local ones and list out of town ones
- Next year we would potentially look into getting tables/Booths at Bubonicon and maybe this year at Con Jikan
- Convention committee needs to discuss raising seed funds for purchasing booths at conventions
o The Railyard summer stands will hopefully get us a buffer to pay for the first table and hopefully the revenue from the tables will be able to fund future ones.

o Cherie Priest is the guest of honor at this year’s bubonicon
Potentially find something to do as a steampunk group with her
o We have submitted a few panel ideas, we need to see which ones that we are given.

- Steampunk Book Club?
o Send out an email asking members if there would be interest in forming one.
